It currently has a 91 score on Metacritic with reviewers falling all over themselves to extol the virtues of Hogg’s autobiographical film. Joanna Hogg’s drama about a young film student who gets into a toxic relationship with an older man was a big hit with the critics. However, it has garnered a few positive reviews online so while it probably won’t offer many surprises, it might still offer something of value to anybody looking for something comfortably familiar. The Eye, In Darkness, and Blink are just a few of the other movies that have explored the theme of a blind person in peril, so my expectations for this one are a little low. This tale of a blind skier who faces off against a set of thieves in a secluded mansion sounds a little generic. This adaptation of a story by Stephen King is very good so is well worth a watch if you’re a fan of the author.

This is unlike John Cusack’s paranormal debunker who suffers all kinds of nightmarish goings-on when he pays a visit to a New York hotel. But very few of us have had to put up with supernatural experiences after we have booked ourselves in for a stay somewhere. Many of us have experience of terrible hotel rooms, with mysterious stains on the sheets, damp patches on the walls, and the sound of something mischievous patrolling under the floorboards.
